Our last day at OIT, where we learned all about direct use geothermal. :)

The Geo-Heat Center took us to the Klamath Basin Brewing Co, where they use geothermal heat to brew beer in Klamath Falls. We got a tour from one of the brewers and then ate lunch and drank geothermally brewed beer!

This afternoon we went inside OIT's "boiler room" which heats the building. There is no boiler - it is heated with 100% geothermal energy from the Earth!

For our lunch break, we took a walk around the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) campus.

We moved into the Shilo Hotel in Klamath Falls, OR for a week of direct-use geothermal classes. The Shilo is pretty comfortable and we get a huge allowance for dinner each night at the restaurant. Plus, I have my La Pavoni with us!!!

As part of the NGA program, we are all moving from Reno to Klamath Falls, OR for class next week. On our way we drove through Lassen National Park.

Today Romy had an interview at NATC. We went to Tahoe afterwards to relax on the beach and have a dinner picnic.

Tonight we are going to see Moby at Squaw Valley! So excited!

Tonight we are swimming and camping at Pyramid Lake, just north of Reno, with a bunch of people from the NGA program. It's 1/6th the salinity of sea water and has many fish and even huge pelicans! The Truckee River (the only outflow of Lake Tahoe) is the source of water for Pyramid Lake.

This week we are learning geothermal reservoir engineering at the University of Nevada Reno. We are using steam tables to the density of water as a function of pressure and temperature, and plotting the boiling point to depth curve.

The washing machine at the house we're staying in broke (a long time ago actually), and so we had to go to Duds'n'Suds! They had a bar inside of the laundromat and a pool table! We just worked on our thesis while waiting for the clothes to finish. Correction: It looks like I am working on my thesis and Romy is on Facebook!

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we pack our own lunch. We always have the best lunch and sit outside at the picnic tables.

A whole day after we started an epic tubing trip with an impromptu camp over night *near* the hot springs on the East Fork Carson River.

All of us (David, Ian, Romy, Jenn, Carolina) and the cargo raft at the beginning of the tubing trip down the East Fork Carson River! We put in near Markleeville, CA. We are very excited!!!

Today we drove around looking at houses and land in the Virginia City Highlands. We also tried to drive down the old Toll Rd, which went between Reno and Virginia City.

Anna from Spain is visiting for some field work (she is studying dikes (the geological kind, hehehe) in the Sierra Nevada). We went out to downtown with Anna and Carolina.

Romy is making a new steering column for the baja, since it needs to be different because of the body lift.

I noticed a weed in the front. When I pulled it out, it was almost as big as me!

Today there was so much drama at America's Best Tire, where we had purchased a warranty certificate for the Subaru's snow tires. We had to take a break fighting with the manager, and go get some frozen yogurt. It was so good!

Today I sewed some curtains for Bubbles so it stays cooler inside. I love my White sewing machine! I took a picture of my reflection in the tread tension knob.

The Subaru is done, and now Romy is making sure the bus will still start!

Its sooo hot, we made frozen mango blueberry smoothies. Mmmmmm!

Romy's replacing the Subaru's struts and tie-rods because we damaged them when following the Pony Express Trail a few weeks ago! Now the Subaru will be even more lifted!

Coming home from surfing in Santa Cruz, Bubble's throttle cable broke, but we were able to rig it up and keep driving home!

We stopped at Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing to get a tasting flight on our way home from surfing.

Romy started putting all his car parts outside to organize everything! Soooo much stuff!

Today Romy made some yummy blueberry frozen smoothies! Mmmmmmmmm good!

Romy's also working on his thesis (which he'll finish before me). But it looks like he's about to call it quitting time as he opens an IPA we still had from our trip to Colorado.

Working on my thesis. . . it's been giving me a hard time lately.

Doing more moving stuff. Its all taking quite a while, but we are doing a little bit each day to keep it manageable.

Today I took down all our magnets and post cards that we had on the fridge and washer & dryer, and packed them away. Everything looks so white! Can't wait to NOT be in this kitchen!!!

We are officially starting the move to Reno by going through every room and getting rid of things (like this huge pile of clothes) we don't want to take with. I donated all our stuff to a thrift store in Berkeley.

We got our Burning Man tickets in the mail today! Woo hoo!

It was seafood night at N&M's. We had shrimp, abalone (a huge ocean snail), and oysters. N&M got the abalone from their neighbor, who went diving for them a while ago and froze one. I pounded it really good and made mini steaks.

Romy had his last hospital visit today (a two-week check up with his surgeon). We had lunch at the hospital cafeteria. I had a tuna melt on rye. It was soooooooo good!!! Romy had a gyro.
