Today I made big progress on my permafrost model!!! Wooohooo! You can see sediment temperature on the top and permafrost saturation on the bottom. My qualifying exam date is lurking behind me.

We were the last car parked on the street tonight! That's cuz I stayed at school late today to celebrate Mong-Han passing his qualifying exam! Its very foggy.

Today we went to see the first VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) race of the season, a short course at Prairie City OHV park near Folsom, CA. Romy is thinking of joining one of the Class 11 teams (a VW Bug baja).

I am washing the tent rainfly with salt and lemon juice (and hot water) to kill the mold. I guess we put it away a little wet last time we used it!

Today we went skiing around the shore of Lake Almador, which is south of Lassen National Park. It looks like a mini Lake Tahoe.

Tonight we are camping in Lassen National Park in the backcountry. The snow was soooooo heavy, we had no grip with our skis and it was hard moving around. We should of went with our snowshoes. We tested out the selk'bags and they were warm! It was 16 degrees overnight.

Today we drove all the way to Eagleville, CA to go soak in a natural hot spring called Squaw Bath in the Surprise Valley. It was so beautiful, and the water was very hot! Wild mint grows around the natural-bottom pool.

I am converting more people to selk'bag people! Now Romy has a green selk'bag. Nicole is borrowing my extra yellow one before I go return it back to the store next week.

Tonight we are studying for the Transport and Mixing exam we have tomorrow morning! Ahhhhhhh diffusion-advection and turbulent mixing!

This morning there was hail/snow on the drive to school from the thunderstorms in the area. Although hard to see, the hills in the background were a bit white. We even had to slow down because the road was covered in ice/snow! The hills in the background are Sibley Volcanic Regional Park and are part of the old caldera

Skiing at Royal Gorge X-country ski center - it's the largest x-country ski place in North America (supposedly). It was huge, and we skied about 20km total. We took a break at a warming hut to take in the view behind us.
