I am reading a book all about the great basin. Today I learned about krumholtz trees at high altitude. They are trees that have such a hard time surviving because of the cold and windy harsh conditions at the top of some of the mountains in the desert, that they are only about 3ft high and they don't grow upward. Instead, they literally crawl over the ground and can spread 100s of feet from their original sprouting location!!
