Lunch at a Bar Mleciny, a cheap cafeteria place from the communist era. We had pierogis!!!

Going out with conference people in old town Warsaw. We had a beer with Sprite with a shot of vodka that the waiter recommended. It was ok.

It is soooo hot here right now in Warsaw, we stopped for a cold beer with fruit syrup and listened to the thunderstorms roll past. It didn't rain on us.

We found a letterbox hidden in the hedges in the royal park called Park Lazienkowski in Warsaw!

Now we're in Warsaw, Poland for the International Combustion Symposium conference. We went out for some tripe soup and Polish beer in old town Warsaw. It's super hot out!!!

Walking around Darmstadt, Germany (where the TNF11 conference is) looking for a laundromat. There is no laundromat in this city!

This morning we visited Burg Eltz, a cool castle in western Germany.

We had coffee and some really really good waffles in Veere, Netherlands today. Next we are going to Belgium!

We visited Gouda, where the cheese comes from and sampled the local cheeses at a cafe in the town square! We also had some locally brewed trappist style beer. Mine was 11%!

Having fun and relaxing with a beer in Meppel, Netherlands, where we finally bought a map (it was fun traveling so far without one). This bar had some local beer that was so good!

At the VW Museum in Wolfsburg, Germany!

The first day of our German and Benelux road trip was a stop in Wolfsburg to see the VW museum! This is a 1973 Passat.

Going shopping at the Saturday morning market in the center of town in Braunschweig, Germany. We bought a lot of fruit and salad stuff.

We made it to Braunschweig, Germany, where we are staying with Mark for a few days! Tonight we biked into the center of town to have some dinner and a beer.

After an early morning flight from Trondheim to Oslo, we had a long lay over a slept a few hours on these benches. It was perfect!

After the river, we went out for some local brews at the only microbrewery in town.

Celebrating our last day in Norway with some nice trappist style beers on the Nid River in old Trondheim.

Putting on the shoes before going to school. Only a few more days of work left!

The cabin is all tidied up and we are ready to leave back to the car and then back to Trondheim.

More fishing and slightly bigger fish! This time we baked them in foil over the wood burning stove with onions and lemon.

Inside the cabin it was really cozy. We made a big breakfast this morning.

Romy caught his first fish when we went out on the paddle boat that was at the cabin.

Hiking on our way to a cool hut north of Trondheim in the Afjord region.

Romy and Benni decided to clean out the nasty cupboards and organize the pantry tonight.

After visiting the Folksmuseum, we went mountain biking in Bymarka. It was muddy!

It turned out to be such a nice day, that we took off early from work and went to see the Trondelag Folksmuseum, where they have a bunch of traditional buildings from the Trondelag area, including a medieval stave church from the 1100's!

I've been really looking forward to see the mid-century modern exhibit at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Trondheim! It was soooo cool!

I just got back to the office from the break room where I got my yummy coffee and hot cocoa mix.

Romy

Romy looks really awake as we get into the office today. Long weekend! We got home last night at 2am and then had to return the car at 8:30am.

Jenn

On our way back to Trondheim, we drove through a mountain in the Laerdal Tunnel, which is 24.5 km long and the world's longest road tunnel! Every once in a while, to wake you up, they had rest areas inside the tunnel that were brightly and very colorfully lit!

We stopped at a guy named Christer's place who collects and restores VWs, and Romy spent a bunch of time looking and also bought a few parts.

We made it to Bergen to visit Cova and Vidar. We had dinner and some beer. It was warm outside and Bergen was a nice city!

We took a short hike to get a better view of Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall.

Romy

Today we are driving on our way to Bergen, in southern Norway. We got some crazy good soft serve ice cream covered in chocolate powder while waiting for the ferry in Molde!

In Norway, grocery stores throw away food in the dumpster, but we only found bakery goods that were smushed.

Jenn

Tonight Bettina made a traditional Norwegian dinner of smoked salmon, fermented fish, melon and cold cuts, and sour cream porridge. Mmmmmm!

Romy

Romy fixing a bent rear wheel on one of the junk bikes in the back yard.  The bike still has no rear brakes, but at least it rolls now.

We went rock climbing in Hell again this afternoon. This time we got a ride with Sebastian, so we got there in 1/2 hour instead of 4 hours by bike!

Today we went on a quick uphill bike ride to Bymarka. We are training to get rid of some fat!

Packing our lunch for the day. We made hummus and veges to dip!

Tonight we cooked some pork chops with Benni that we found at ICA for half off! ICA is awesome for meat when it's half off, otherwise it's too expensive.

It was kind of rainy today so we went to the museum. Today we saw the Norwegian crown jewels and coronation robes. We also saw the archbishop's palace archeological exhibit with a bunch of medieval artifacts.
