Eating the ice cream we made with liquid nitrogen at Berkeley, on the balcony in LeConte Hall. It tasted pretty good! I added M&Ms, Snickers, and Oreo cookies!

I am making ice cream by mixing cream, sugar, and chocolate syrup together and putting scoops of liquid nitrogen in it to instantly freeze it! The cold fog is the liquid nitrogen.

It was really warm out this morning, so we had breakfast outside.

Today was so hot, we decided to go to the beach instead of staying at school this afternoon. It got into the 90s, so we headed to Stinson Beach, which is north of San Francisco by Muir Woods and Mt Tam. I actually went swimming!

This morning we took a short walk in the Oakland hills on a random fire trail. We didn't know the name of the trail, but it was near Sibley.

On our way home from the Fall Finnon Fest, somewhere on I-80 near Scaramento. My hair is going crazy in the wind!

Me relaxing on the couch. We tried taking a HDR picture, where you combine three pictures into one: an under-exposed shot, an over-exposed shot, and a normally exposed shot. The effect looks better in landscape photos where there is a lot of detail in the shadows, but we tried it one me first!

This fleece makes me look fat! We are on the way over the Sierras through Yosemite on Hwy 120 to Mono Lake to go kayaking!

Tonight was the EPS department BBQ and afterwards, the graduate student social at Berkeley, where they serve beer out of kegs and serve pizza. We were pretty full from the BBQ but went for the beer. We took this picture outside at the social.

We felt nice after taking a shower at Red's Meadow in the bathhouse. The water is fed by natural hot springs and the showers were almost too hot! Awesome after 27 miles of hiking under the hot Sierra Sun!

Relaxing in the middle pools of Iva Bell Hot Springs this morning, a set of natural springs on the side of the mountain at the head of Fish Creek Valley in the John Muir Wilderness. The water was a little over 100F, and the air temperature this morning was about 50F. Nice.

We set out early this morning towards Iva Bell Hot Springs, which was about 8.5 miles away from our first camp. The trail was blasted out of the granite batholith!
