We went down in Beauty Cave in Craters of the Moon National Monument. It had ice inside, which stays there year round. The Shoshone native americans used it to store meat. Outside on the lava flow field it was about 100 degrees, but down in the cave it was 32! We had to have flashlights to go inside.

We made it to the yurt and are spending our second night! The first night, all of us barely made it before midnight, and both the bajas didn't have enough power to make it up the steep dirt road to the yurt, so we parked them about one mile down the mountain and had to hike up! On the second night, we unloaded N&M's dashwood and floored it up the mountainside. It made it and we are celebrating!

Here we climbed up to the summit of Bald Mountain - 11,760 ft. We never got to the Red Castle, but we saw it in the panorama view of the high Uinta Mountains.

We got the engine in finally, and now I am working on tightening up the CV joints. Since we put a bigger transmission in, we had to modify the axles and CV joints. We got off-road CV boots and new CV joints (for a Type IV) which have 22 degrees of travel, and Thing axles because they are shorter by about 1/2 an inch.

Today I went sailing on the small sailboat with Dena, one of the students in the class I GSI'ed for during Fall 2009 semester. She has a membership with Cal Adventures at the Berkeley Marina, and she wanted to practice, but not alone, so she invited me to go with. We almost capsized the boat because the wind was so strong! But it was fun!

This is the severe storm that blew through Iowa City right after we had a picnic! People in McDonald's were all into how they heard 70 mph wind and hail. Look at the wall cloud behind me! It was all calm until it hit, there were trees down, and the rain went sideways.
